A recurring question about on-demand applications is security. Is it really safe to upload my enterprise data online? Do I still have full control over my data? We never worked with online application before so we are not so confident… When it comes to security, the list of users’ concerns can get long. I went to the Content Management Strategies/DITA North America 2008 conference (put on by CIDM), which took place in Santa Clara last week. Thanks to my Google News Alert service, I recently discovered some on-demand XML Editors supporing DITA. While Salesforce democratized software on-demand in the CRM market, I am still perplexed on the future of on-demand pure play software.

Documentation written for single-sourcing (topic based, like that found in DITA) has great potential for efficiency. Writing once and publishing in many publications (Developer Guides, User Guides, etc.) and many formats (pdf, html, HTMLHelp, etc.) turns into cost and time savings.

Documentation teams need a fast and effective review process to move forward on their projects and deliver quality, timely content.
